Promotion

One of the many things we’re still learning is how to promote ourselves and ultimately our first film. This website was the first step, and in the span of five months it has undergone a lot of changes and definitely been a load of work. I feel like it has been well worth it, and I’ll consider posting what I’ve learned about Wordpress in the future, when some other ridiculous feature breaks or javascript takes the whole site down or something as equally entertaining.

One of the things I’m slowly learning is it is incredibly difficult to effectively get people to give a damn about you, your ideas, and your films. Giving a damn and casually acknowledging that some crazy guy you know is making a film are two vastly different things. It’s sort of like a lucid dream, where you can’t take the events happening before you seriously because you know it isn’t real. Deep down inside, you tell yourself that those things could never happen. Yet if dreams never came true, we’d live in a much sadder world.

We’re real, we’re here, and we’ve infiltrated Facebook, Youtube (sort of), and Vimeo. Until our film is ready, we probably won’t push too much further. However, we will do our best to make every one out there give a damn.

I came across the website for “a documentary about happiness” – about band that includes members with learning disabilities, called “Heavy Load”. I was amazed at how well the site was put together – easy menu, direct access to a trailer, production photos, info on the creative talent behind the project, and of course plenty of information on the band. It is one of the finer film sites I’ve seen in quite a while, and the film doesn’t look half-bad either. Now I actually give a damn.

For any other guys/girls out there fighting our fight, here’s some more tips which prompted us to create a Facebook PAGE as well as our GROUP. Never stop the hustle. If you have any tips or thoughts, warm up the comments for us.

I’m hooked into the RSS and have been forwarding the good updates through Google Reader. Keep doing your thing and wait till the end to generate hype. All you need is a kick ass trailer.

    Good luck, guys! :)
